SLOW TRAVEL / SEOUL

Make room for a quieter Seoul.

Build a city day around one cultural stop and an unhurried break.

A city break becomes easier when the pauses are part of the plan. In central Seoul, you can choose a woodland reading break or a cultural stop with room for coffee.

These are two different options, not a tested walking route. Choose one to suit your interests, check current access and leave the rest of the afternoon flexible.

01 / Samcheong Park & Forest Library

Choose Samcheong Park when your day needs more trees and fewer shop windows. On the hills of Bugaksan, northeast of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the park combines woodland paths with a small library.

Near the park entrance, Samcheong Park Forest Library welcomes visitors as well as local residents. The former park-shop building was refreshed in 2023 and includes a self-service café. Treat it as a shared reading space: keep conversations low and leave room for other readers.

Make this a nature-led pause: a short walk, some reading and then a decision about whether to continue exploring Samcheong-dong. Check the library's current visitor information first, especially if the indoor stop is your main reason for coming. No English-book selection or borrowing privileges are assumed here.

02 / Seoul Museum of Craft Art

Choose SeMoCA for art and a café in one stop. Near Anguk Station, the museum offers individual walk-in visiting and free general admission, although separately hosted exhibitions may charge. Start with one exhibition rather than trying to cover every building, then leave time for the outdoor Craft Courtyard.

The facilities guide lists cafés in the Information Building and on the fourth floor of the Education Building. The latter connects by an outdoor staircase to a roof garden. Check current facilities and access before planning around it; step-free rooftop access has not been verified.

Keep drinks in designated café areas and confirm the day's notices. The courtyard is not a 24-hour public space, and Children's Museum reservations are separate from general museum visiting.

Which would you choose?

For trees and a reading break: Samcheong Park. For an exhibition and coffee: SeMoCA. Neither needs to become a full-day checklist.
